June 29th, 2011: Use the Force, Luke!

From the archives of yonder years, I’ve dug out a horror that I’d created back in 2002. My one and only attempt at making techno music resulted in a determined effort to make the single most godawful piece of utter crap I possibly could. My logic was that if I didn’t have the talent to make something good, I’d use my skills to make something mind-numbingly terrible.

I’m going to call that mission a resounding success.

Obi-Wan Water Mix (By the Sea-Side)

I seem to recall masquerading the atrocity as some apparently bootleg Nine Inch Nails demo track, and uploaded it to a multitude of Usenet sites (this was the days before the prevalence of BitTorrent). Whether or not anyone was fooled into downloading it is anyone’s guess, but I like to think that at least one NIN fan out there was left disappointed by my shenanigans.

    Great music :p

Mate, making music is a long process. It’s way easier (and yield much better results imo) if you make something up with a real instrument first, and then make it into something techno perhaps.

The reason I say this, is that the best music are made, while you actually play it. IE, best music comes from playing around, not having your mind set on something special, let the process shape the music, instead of having the shape set from the start.

I hope you pick up on it again. Simply because, the first many pieces you will make, will be awfull. Ofcourse you can’t create something good the first time, even if you had talent.

    So go on mate :)

I’m afraid you’ve missed the point entirely. ;) The whole purpose of the endeavour was to create something utterly terrible. Making good music isn’t my goal or intention at all; it’s just not a field I’m honestly that inclined towards. :)
